Don’t confuse Shady’s smile for complacency

While Brian Westbrook fights for carries in San Francisco, his protege is quickly becoming one of the Eagles’ most-dependable weapons.

While Brian Westbrook fights for carries in San Francisco, his protege is quickly becoming one of the Eagles’ most-dependable weapons.

Even in Andy Reid’s pass-first offense, LeSean McCoy is thriving. The second-year running back plays through injuries and brings a certain swagger to the locker room. On the field, McCoy’s shake-and-bake style makes him a menace in open space.

“I go on natural feeling. You know, you see the guy and, ‘Hey, you know what you’re going to do,’” McCoy said. “You’re going to get past him. All I need now is that extra burst, that’s going to get me into the end zone.”

McCoy is on pace for almost 1,100 rushing yards and 12 total TDs. And with 67 pass receptions, he is just 24 catches short of breaking Westbrook’s single-season record (90).

With so many weapons surrounding him, it often seems like opposing teams aren’t game-planning to stop the versatile back.

“I’m not sure. I can’t worry about that,” McCoy said, when asked if teams game plan for him. “I’m blessed to be on a team like this, we got so many weapons — and if they don’t game plan for me, then that works out well for me.”
