Eagles need to make splash in deep NFL draft

No matter what the Eagles have said in the past few months, it’s clear the team is rebuilding. That process begins tonight in the draft.

The Eagles hold 10 picks, including the 24th overall. It would serve them well to package that, with the 37th overall, and move up into the top-15. There, they could nab Georgia Tech DE Derrick Morgan (Coatesville) or — if they’re lucky — steal Texas S Earl Thomas.

New Eagles GM Howie Roseman said last week that he’s “probably a little more aggressive [than old Eagles GM Tom Heckert].”

Roseman has reportedly been trying to move up all week, already putting calls into the Dolphins, who hold the 12th pick, and the Broncos (11th pick).

Of course, Roseman will be in the fox hole with Andy Reid, who advises on all personnel decisions. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper recently said Reid has a pretty good eye for talent.

“Andy Reid is big on the draft,” Kiper said. “He studies the draft and he really loves the draft process.”
