Eagles Notebook: Babin released; Jackson to IR

The Eagles made two major roster moves Tuesday afternoon. First, they sent DeSean Jackson to the injured reserve list. The receiver fractured his ribs Monday night while making a play over the middle.

Then, in a somewhat shocking maneuver, Andy Reid announced that he had released Jason Babin. The former Pro Bowl defensive end had been enduring a difficult season and had rubbed some fans the wrong way. Babin has just 5.5 sacks for the year.

“We appreciate everything that Jason has given this team over the last couple of years,” Reid said. “We wish him all the best as he continues his career. By releasing him today, this gives us an opportunity to give more playing time to some of younger guys in the defensive line rotation.”

Many expected Babin to be released after the season ended. Obviously, Reid wants to get the young guys some playing time in this lost season.
