Eagles set training camp, joint practices with Patriots

Bill Belichick once again treasured quantity over quality in the draft. The Grinch is coming to Philadelphia in August when the Eagles and Patriots will hold joint practices.

The Eagles have set their training camp schedule and it includes an exciting, new wrinkle.

The team will host five open practices at Lincoln Financial Field that are free for fans to enjoy. The Eagles will also hold five additional private practices at the NovaCare Complex open to a limited number of season-ticket holders.

Tickets to the Linc practices will be made available June 18 at 2 p.m. on the team’s website. Rookies report to training camp July 22, with the full squad joining them July 25. Camp wraps up on Aug. 28 prior to the final preseason game.Click here for the full schedule.

“We are very excited to hold training camp in Philadelphia this summer,” said Eagles president Don Smolenski. “We organized the practice schedule at Lincoln Financial Field to begin in late July and run throughout the entire month of August so that our fans and their families would have opportunities to come and see the team up close.”

When the Pats come marching in

The Eagles and Patriots are teaming up. No, really.

New England coach Bill Belichick proposed an idea about holding joint practices in Philadelphia. Chip Kelly, who has known Belichick for a few years, immediately embraced the idea.

“I didn’t call him. He called me,” Kelly said. “I’ve known Bill for awhile. I have a ton of respect for him. He presented it to me and it made a lot of sense.

“You got to prepare for your first preseason game anyway, so instead of us trying to give looks to our defense about what the Patriots’ offense is going to look like, then why not have them do it. We’ll cooperate … and they’re not coming here, so it doesn’t upset our schedule.”

The joint practices are scheduled to run from Aug. 6-7 at the NovaCare Complex prior to the two teams meeting in a preseason game on Aug. 9. It will mark the first time the Eagles have held a joint practice with another team since 1998. Season-ticket holders will be randomly invited to attend these practices.
