Fantasy sports: Backfield merge

Fantasy’s glamor position is still running back. And it’s still as volatile as ever.

We’re only in Week 4, but we’re already seeing changes in backfields across the league:

Lion’s Share

Prior to last week, Mikel Leshoure had never played in an NFL game due to injury and suspension. That didn’t stop the Lions from giving him 30 touches against the Titans. They’ve bailed on Kevin Smith and are impressed with Leshoure’s skills on third down. If he stays healthy, he’ll be a weekly RB2 the rest of the way.

Quizz Rising

The Falcons are running one of the league’s best up-tempo, vertical schemes. Michael Turner just doesn’t fit and it’s showing in playing time. Last week, Jacquizz Rodgers led Falcons’ running backs in snaps — and got most of them before the game was out of hand.

He’s a better fit.

Sharing Giants

The Giants love to use a committee approach in the backfield. Andre Brown’s impressive play so far is allowing them to do just that. Even though Ahmad Bradshaw is keeping his starting gig, Brown has earned a major role. Coach Tom Coughlin is hinting at a “hot-hand” approach.
