Flyers fall to Tampa

The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-2, Monday night.

The teams entered the third period tied, 2-2. Teddy Purcell’s goal at 9:25 of the final period put the Lightning ahead for good.

NHL goal-scoring leader Steven Stamkos sealed the game for Tampa Bay with an empty-net goal with 3 seconds to play. It was the sniper’s 200th career goal and 21st of the season.

Max Talbot and Claude Giroux tallied for the Flyers, who fell to 13-16-1 on the season and stand five points out of the eighth and final NHL Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Monday’s contest in Tampa was Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen’s 1,000th career NHL game.
