The Flyers hadn’t beaten San Jose in California in 15 years before Monday night’s 5-2 win in the “Shark Tank.”

But after the team clinched a winning record during a daunting west coast road trip, the Flyers appear to have generated some much needed momentum with Thursday’s match up with the Avalanche the last home game before the NHL’s two-week Olympic break.

There are two catalysts for the wins over the Kings and Sharks. A potent power play and Steve Mason.

The Flyers special teams, particularly their power play attack, has been extremely fruitful of late. The team boasts seven straight goals with a man-advantage, and power play strikes in 13 of their last 16.

Mason, in California, compiled a 2.02 goals against average with a .929 save percentage.

“One of the players in L.A. referred to it as the Bermuda triangle, coming into California,” Wayne Simmonds told reporters Monday night. “I think we played pretty well, we had pretty good compete level all three games and I think four points out of the six is pretty nice. We’ll take that and go back home.”
