Mike Goodson is back with the Jets, but he won’t be able to make an impact quite yet. The NFL suspended the Jets running back on Monday evening for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Goodson was arrested on drug and weapons charges after the vehicle he was a passenger in was found parked in the middle of Route 80 in the early morning hours of May 17. After being taken to the hospital, he posted bail later that night and currently is going through the legal process for his arrest.

In a statement, the NFL said that Goodson will miss the first four games of the NFL regular season and can return Sept. 30 following the Jets’ Week 4 game against the Titans. He will be suspended without pay.

The Jets, in their own statement, said Goodson will be permitted to attend meetings and do his own conditioning on an individual basis at the team facility but will not be allowed to practice or play with the team.

“I’ve been away from the team to take care of some important personal things,” Goodson said in a statement issued by the team. “The time was helpful to me and now that I am back, I am going to do everything I can to contribute to the team. I appreciate all of the support from the Jets organization and I’m thankful to be back with my teammates.”

Goodson was signed by the Jets in mid-March as one of the first signings made by new general manager John Idzik. He signed for three years and $6.9 million.
