The Celtics and Cavaliers are working the details out on a trade that will send Kyrie Irving to Boston and Isaiah Thomas to Cleveland.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted the following just before 6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday:

“Sources: Boston, Cleveland nearing deal on Kyrie Irving, but details still working to completion. Isaiah Thomas, Crowder, pick(s) in talks.”

The Vertical’s Shams Charania wrote Tuesday night that “the teams are still working on the framework of a deal, and Jae Crowder has been involved in the discussions, league sources said.”

Cleveland will also receive the 2018 Brooklyn Nets first round pick, which could very well wind up being a top five selection.

In addition to Irving being a slight upgrade over Thomas, who had a monster scoring season with the Celtics in 2016-17, Irving is under contract through the 2018-19 season. Thomas is looking for a max contract as he is set to become a free agent next summer.

A Celtics trade for Irving could shift the balance of power in the Eastern Conference as Irving will be hell-bent on quieting LeBron James, whom he has had considerable beef with this summer.

The Celtics could potentially trot out the following rotation in 2017-18:

C Aron Baynes

F Al Horford

F Gordon Hayward

G Jaylen Brown

G Kyrie Irving

Bench

Jayson Tatum

Marcus Morris

Marcus Smart

Terry Rozier

Guerschon Yabusele
