Meryl Davis and Charlie White are America’s newest sweethearts after taking home the gold in Sochi. The young Olympians are known for their amazing chemistry on the ice. They talked to us about their relationship, plans for the future and Tinder at the Ralph Lauren store in New York yseterday.
Metro: Did you have any Sochi problems?
Meryl Davis: We had no Sochi problems
Charlie White: We had no #sochiproblems.
I know you’ve addressed this before – that you’re not in a romantic relationship – but have you ever given it a shot?
Davis: No, we developed a really great rhythm early on and I think our comfort level and the way that we work together has been the biggest asset to our career, so no. We have a really great relationship and we’re happy with it.
Would you say you have a brother-sister relationship?
White: No. You know, it’s hard to define. It’s very unique. We grew up together and we have sort of a business partnership as well. There’s a lot of factors but the best we can do is say that it’s unique.
Are you protective of each other when it comes to relationships?
White: We have a lot of faith in one another in terms of the kind of people we are now. We have a lot of trust that that person would be able to choose wisely.
Did you guys use Tinder at all in Sochi?
Davis: [laughs] No, we’re actually both in relationships so that’s not on our radar.
White: That’s not our scene, per se.
Davis: We actually just found out what it was like a week ago.
Wow, you guys must have been really busy.
White: Yeah.
What’s next on the horizon?
Davis: We’re just enjoying the moment. As athletes, we’re always trying to figure out what’s next and how to improve and how to get to the next level. We’ve been so focused on these games and now that it’s over, we’re just trying to enjoy the moment.
White: We’re not really sure. We’re just taking it one day at a time, but we’re really excited to do the “Stars on Ice” tour, too, that’s coming up in April and May. As of now, that’s all we know.
How would you describe your style off the ice?
Davis: Our personal style? It’s eclectic. I like to mix it up. Ralph Lauren has been a really big part of my wardrobe for months now. We’re athlete ambassadors for them so whether or not we’re wearing a completely Ralph Lauren outfit or incorporating it into our outfits in different ways, I think it’s been a lot fun of fun to work with them.
White: For me, it’s always been classic and preppy so being able to work with Ralph Lauren has been a dream.
