Mets to host 2013 All-Star Game

They may have to wait to host the fall classic, but the Mets know for sure they will be hosting the midsummer classic in 2013.

MLB will host a press conference today at City Hall to award Citi Field the 2013 All-Star Game.

It doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, since MLB?had promised both New York teams a chance to host when they built new stadiums in 2008. The Yankees hosted in 2008 in the final year of the old Yankee Stadium. And now the Mets will get the chance next year in their newly redesigned ballpark.

The Mets have only hosted one previous All-Star Game — the first year of Shea Stadium in 1964. The NL won that game, 7-4.

This will be the ninth time the city of New York has hosted the game. The Yankees have hosted it four times, while the Giants did twice and the Dodgers once.

Mayor Mike Bloomberg and officials from MLB will make the announcement at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
