NBC announces fall lineup; turns up volume on ‘The Voice’

NBC is betting on its hit singing competition, ordering “The Voice” for two cycles — one in the fall and one mid-season — for the 2012-2013 season, the network announced today.

The network is also going big on laughs, maintaining its traditional lineup of sitcoms on Thursdays while adding an hour of comedies on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

New comedies on the fall lineup include the Matthew Perry-led “Go On,” “The New Normal” from “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy, veterinarian comedy “Animal Practice,” starring Justin Kirk, and Jimmy Fallon’s “Guys with Kids.” The Anne Heche comedy “Save Me,” White House sitcom “1600 Penn,” and Dane Cook-led “Next Caller” will premiere mid-season.

New dramas include Jon Favreau and J.J. Abrams’ action-adventure “Revolution,” Dick Wolf’s firehouse drama “Chicago Fire.” The Jekyll and Hyde-like “Do No Harm,” murder mystery “Infamous,” and “Hannibal,” Bryan Fuller’s take on Dr. Hannibal Lecter, will debut mid-season.

Returning comedies include “30 Rock,” “Up All Night,” “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Whitney,” and “Community,” which moves to Fridays.

Dramas back for another season are “Parenthood,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Grimm.” Drama “Smash” will be held for late fall or mid-season.
