The Revolution made plenty of headlines this week but likely not in the way they would prefer.

Revs forward Juan Agudelo reportedly will bolt for England at year’s end for Stoke City. Agudelo’s MLS contract ends on Dec. 31, 2013.

New England sent out a brief statement this week regarding Agudelo’s situation: “We are aware of the stories circulating about Juan Agudelo, but as we’re sure you can understand, we cannot address anything publicly unless an official announcement has been made.’’

Agudelo told the Boston Globe Wednesday: “Right now I’m focused on playing with the Revolution, but I mean everyone knows what I signed.”

Agudelo was acquired by the Revs in May via a trade with Chivas USA. The forward has played well in limited action with the Revs, scoring three goals in five games.

New England is in Kansas City, Kan. this weekend for a match with Sporting KC on Saturday (8:30 p.m., CSN). Sporting is (10-7-6, 36 points) and in second place in the Eastern Conference while the Revs are currently on the outside looking in for the postseason.

The Revs (8-8-6, 30 points) sit just behind Houston (9-6-6, 33 points) for the fifth and final playoff slot in the East.
