NFL Roundup: Week 6

Through six weeks of the NFL season, if you haven’t noticed already, there is a lot of parity in the league as any team can win on any given Sunday. This was evident once again Sunday as more than half of the early games were one-possession games in the fourth quarter. Here is a run down of the early games for Week 6:

New York Jets 35 Indianapolis Colts 9

There is not much of a quarterback controversy when your running back rushes for 161 yards and three touchdowns, which is what Jets running back Shonn Greene did in their blowout win over the Colts. Mark Sanchez was an effective 11 for 18 for 82 yards passing and two touchdowns. New York improves to 3-3, while the Colts are now 2-3.

Detroit Lions 26 Philadelphia Eagles 23

The Lions scored the games’ final 16 points to earn a three-point overtime win on the road. It was the Eagles’ second straight loss as they fall to 3-3, while the Lions improve to 2-3. Jason Hanson’s 45-yard field goal in overtime is what ultimately gave the Lions the win, as he also kicked a 19-yard field goal with three seconds remaining in regulation to force the overtime session.

Atlanta Falcons 23 Oakland Raiders 20

Despite scoring only one offensive touchdown, the Falcons were able to defeat the Raiders off the foot of Matt Bryant’s 55-yard field goal with one second remaining to remain unbeaten. It was his third field goal of the game. Denarius Moore caught five passes for 104 yards and a touchdown in the loss for the Raiders as they fall to 1-4.

Baltimore Ravens 31 Dallas Cowboys 29

In one of the more exciting finishes of the day, the Ravens were able to hold off the Cowboys at home. Trailing by eight with less than a minute to play the Cowboys’ Dez Bryant caught a four-yard touchdown pass with just over 30 seconds remaining, but then dropped the ensuing two-point conversion. Dallas recovered the onside kick but Dan Bailey’s 51-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left. Dallas is now 2-3, while the Ravens are 5-1.

Cleveland Browns 34 Cincinnati Bengals 24

The Browns scored 21 fourth quarter points to defeat the Bengals for their first win of the season. Rookie Brandon Weeden threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns in the win, while Andy Dalton threw for 381 yards and three touchdowns, but threw three interceptions in the loss.

Miami Dolphins 17 St. Louis Rams 14

The Dolphins were able to hang on at home for a three-point win over the Rams, despite only 19 total yards rushing. Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Despite the loss, Rams quarterback Sam Bradford was impressive throwing for 315 yards and no interceptions. Both teams are now 3-3.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 38 Kansas City Chiefs 10

Kansas City continues to struggle as they fell to the Bucs on the road without their starting quarterback Matt Cassell. Bucs wide receiver Mike Williams had a monster day catching four passes totaling 113 yards and a touchdown. The Bucs improve to 2-3, while the Chiefs fall to 1-5.

Fantasy Player of the Day: Shonn Greene, NY Jets, Running back. 32 carries, 161 yards, three touchdowns.
