Patriots head coach Bill Belichick initially protested the unsportsmanlike conduct call on Chris Jones Sunday, in which Jones pushed teammate Will Svitek while Jets kicker Nick Folk attempted a game-winning 56-yard field goal.

“We weren’t on the second level when we pushed him, no,” Belichick said Sunday. “You can’t push from the second level. I didn’t think we did that.”

Belichick backtracked a tad Monday. It was the first time the call was made in an NFL game this season and it wound up costing the Pats dearly.

“Obviously, we are wrong. What else is there to say? We’re wrong,” said Belichick on Monday. “Look, it’s our job to understand the rules. Whatever the bottom line is, we didn’t do it properly. So, what else is there to say?”
