According to NFL.com, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has no surgery scheduled to treat a “stubborn” infection in his left forearm.

The Boston Herald reported Sunday that Gronkowski needed to have a plate removed from his arm, but additional surgery may be required if the tissue is infected. The report stated that Gronkowski would miss an early portion of the 2013 season if he needed the fourth surgery.

Gronkowski’s agent Drew Rosenhaus stated that speculation about the fourth surgery is “way off.”

One option for the Patriots if Gronkowski does miss time is getting former Giants tight end Jake Ballard into the mix. The Patriots controversially signed Ballard away from the Giants last summer and put the tight end on IR for the entire 2012 season.
