The Broncos were so disheveled by Sunday’s 43-8 blowout loss to the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII that they couldn’t even agree on the right kind of phrase to describe it.

Slot receiver Wes Welker wasn’t afraid to use “E” word to describe Denver’s performance, but quarterback Peyton Manning scoffed at it.

“This was embarrassing,” Welker told reporters. “No way I expected anything like this to happen.”

Manning, unaware of Welker’s use of the adjective, was insulted by the notion.

“It’s not embarrassing at all,” Manning said. “I would never use that word. There’s a lot of professional football players in that locker room that put in a lot of work into being here, playing in that game … The word ‘embarrassing’ is an insulting word, to tell you the truth.

“We played a great team. We needed to play really well in order to win and we didn’t come anywhere close to that.”
