Olympics in Philadelphia? It’s possible

Olympians parading down Broad Street?

Crazy? Yes, it is. Yet Philadelphia was included in letter sent out to a list of the nation’s largest cities in an effort to gauge interest about hosting the 2024 Olympic Games.

A city spokesman sounded intrigued by the idea.

“From a Philadelphia perspective, we have a pretty impressive array of facilities and amenities that would get us close to the starting line,” Mark McDonald told Philly.com.

This marks the second time our fair city has been in the Olympic conversation. Philly was one of five cities in the mix to host the 2016 Games. It was eventually eliminated after presenting its case to the USOC. A U.S. city hasn’t hosted the Olympics since 1996 in Atlanta. New York fell short in 2012 and Chicago missed out in 2016.
