The Phils (71-81) lost to the Miami Marlins, 4-3, in 10 innings. Marlins third baseman Ed Lucas' leadoff home run to start the 10th inning was the decisive blow.
The Phillies scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning off Marlins starting pitcher Nate Eovaldi. Chase Utley knocked in two runs on a single to right one pitch after Roger Bernadina had scored on a passed ball.
Utley is now batting .279 with 68 RBIs this season.
Zach Miner pitched just three innings in a spot start for Kyle Kendrick, who was scratched with a balky right shoulder. An MRI on Kendrick revealed nothing but tendinitis.
Brad Hand, who pitched the ninth inning for the Marlins (56-96), was credited for the win.
The Phillies will get another shot at a home sweep when they welcome the New York Mets for a three-game set beginning tomorrow night.
