When you’re a 37-year-old backup quarterback with zero chance of supplanting the starting guy unless a major injury occurs, you’re entitled to endless potshots at the wunderkind.
Matt Hasselbeck is dominating the twilight of his career and soon everyone will know that the backup QB of the Indianapolis Colts is no longer Curtis Painter, Jim Sorgi, Dan Orlovsky, Kelly Holcomb or Browning Nagle. Not with the way Hasselbeck runs his Twitter game.
Hasselbeck released the photo above of Andrew Luck’s cellular and (dare I say) MOBILE phone this week with the concise description of “True Story … Andrew Luck’s cell phone. #impressive.”
Now, Luck will likely rake in more money over the next 15 years than any other player in the NFL, but he’ll be damned if he’s gonna start playing Candy Crush on an Apple product. It’s also quite possible that Luck is a marketing genius (he went to Stanford, after all) and is starting a trend here: an old is the new “new” type of deal. Either that or he’s just cheap as hell (which is just as respectable).
Speaking of outdated technology, I couldn’t help but go through old Madden video game clips on YouTube last night after learning of the passing of the great Pat Summerall (my all-time favorite sports broadcaster next to Marv Albert).
Nothing sums up video game Summerall better than the following clip. The tackle, the two-second delay, the disgusting “bone-break” sound, another second-long delay and finally Pat delivering the simple and effective line of, “Ohhhhh, no. There’s a man down.”
