Geno Smith might have a very big name competing with him under center this season.

The Star-Ledger reports the Jets will be hosting free agent quarterback Michael Vick for a visit this weekend. It is the first visit Vick has made during this offseason.

The Jets are in the market for a veteran QB to provide competition for Smith, who was a rookie second-round pick last season. Smith won the competition to be starter in the preseason when Mark Sanchez injured his shoulder against the Giants in the team’s third preseason game. He underwent surgery and missed the entire season.

Vick, meanwhile, spent most of last season on the bench in Philadelphia as Nick Foles ascended to a legitimate starter in the league. Vick battled hamstring injuries early in the season and when Foles threw seven touchdowns in Oakland in Week 9 the stage was set for the team’s transition.

Vick started the first five games of the season before being injured against the Giants on Oct. 6. He returned to face the Giants three weeks later at Lincoln Financial Field, but again aggravated the hamstring injury.

He finished the season with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Vick, who will be 34 when the season begins, has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career — especially in his second stint in the league since a jail stint for dogfighting charges from 2007-08. After being released, he’s spent all five seasons in Philadelphia.

Sanchez is still on the Jets’ roster, though it had been expected he would be cut. He is due $9 million as his base salary in 2014, but with a cap hit of $13.1 million.
