Multiple reports said Tuesday night that the Red Sox would acquire White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy in a three-way trade that also involved the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers would reportedly receive Boston shortstop Jose Iglesias.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported that Tigers outfield prospect Avisail Garcia will head to Chicago. Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr is not expected to be a part of the Peavy deal.
The Red Sox were desperate for another top of the rotation pitcher due to Clay Buchholz's ongoing injury issues. Peavy is a former NL Cy Young Award winner (2007 with San Diego). Peavy is 8-4 on the 2013 season with a 4.28 ERA. In 10 of his 13 starts in 2013, he has lasted six innings or more. The 32-year-old righty hurled a complete game victory over Miami back on May 25.
