Ryan Kalish, one of the more promising players in the Red Sox farm system of the past five-plus years, was not tendered a 2014 contract by the organization and is now a free agent.
With the move, Boston trimmed its 40-man roster to 38.
The 25-year-old Kalish has endured numerous injuries since making his MLB debut in 2010, most recently cervical fusion surgery this past August. He has also had two shoulder surgeries.
Kalish quickly became a fan favorite in his rookie MLB campaign, driving in 24 runs in 53 games in 2010 while also playing a hard-nosed center field.
