Slauson, Cushing comment on fine

A $10,000 fine was levied on left guard Matt Slauso on Thursday for achop block he dealt to the knee of Texans linebacker Brian Cushing onMonday night.

A $10,000 fine was levied on left guard Matt Slauso on Thursday for a chop block he dealt to the knee of Texans linebacker Brian Cushing on Monday night. The second-quarter hit sent Cushing immediately to the turf of MetLife Stadium and will now keep him off the field for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Slauson was asked on Friday for his reaction to the fine.

“I’m not discussing anything. If you guys have something to ask about the opponent this week, I’d love to talk about that,” Slauson said. “I’m not discussing the fine.”

He was also asked if he plans on appealing the fine and responded, “I’m not discussing it.”

Cushing was the team’s leading tackler and an All Pro last season. The former Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) star is considered one of the top linebackers in the league and a rising young star.

On Wednesday, Slauson had said that he there was no intent to injure Cushing on the play. The injured Texans linebacker didn’t seem ready to embrace that line of thinking.

“I’m not sure. Whether it was or it wasn’t, I’m not playing for a while. So that’s not going to change my opinion on anything,” Cushing told the media in Houston on Friday. “It happened. I’m not a guy that’s going to look back into the past and see what I could’ve done differently. I’m going to look into the future and see how I can improve.”
