Paul Pierce might play his pro ball in Boston, but he isn’t exactly torn about who to root for in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Boston University netted a No. 16 seed in the Southwest Region on Sunday night. As a “reward,” they’ll face Pierce’s alma mater, top-seeded Kansas.
That means the end of the Terriers’ season, Pierce said after Sunday night’s game.
“Man, I’m in a tough predicament because you know — well, it’s not
that tough of a predicament: Everybody knows that I am a Kansas alumni
and BU’s season is going to be over next week,” Pierce told reporters. “I’m sorry,
I still love you guys. I’ll guarantee we won’t lose the first game.”
No 16 seed has ever won a tournament game.
