“I mean, we ahh, ummm, we never … ah … HATED Tim Tebow. Am I, right?”
That was the reaction of most Patriots fansMonday following the news that Tim Tebow was about to sign on with the NFL’s devil incarnate, Bill Belichick. Rewind to January 2012, when “Tebow-Time” was arguably the most popular phrase on earth (basically that month’s ‘I ate the bones’).
Metro Boston’s cover leading up to the Patriots-Broncos playoff game that January featured the non-saintly figures of Belichick and Tom Brady (remember, he has kids from – gasp – TWO DIFFERENT WOMEN!!!) walking through some stage of hell with the headline, “Say your prayers Timmy” all while Tebow is ‘Tebowing’ in the bottom right hand corner. The general feeling surrounding Tebow at the time in New England was that he was a lucky QB with god-awful mechanics surrounded by a ton of bullsh** and drama. Nearly a year and a half later, that feeling stood the test of time in Greater Boston – untilMonday around 5 p.m..
Tebow was spotted on ESPN Tuesday morning running quarterback drills with Brady and Ryan Mallett with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels barking orders. The biggest news to come out of the morning minicamp session was: 1. Tebow sucks at the Karaoke drill; 2. He signed a two-year contract with zero money guaranteed and, most importantly; 3. He will wear the No. 5, his old high school number, instead of his usual No. 15 jersey.
