Tiger Woods blog: Might add PGA Tour start; likes shoes

Tiger Woods doesn’t need to hold press conferences to get his message out. They get messy anyway, with questions, and answers, and it’s a lot tougher lately to control than in the old days.

Yesterday Woods took to his blog to share some thoughts on his comeback, his lackluster performance in his brief two-week return, and made sure to toss in a plug for his new Nike golf shoes. He also delivered notice that he wants to play on the President’s Cup team, and possibly the only new revelation, that he is considering playing during the normally Tiger-free PGA Tour Fall Series (“I might add another PGA Tour event to my schedule. Right now, I’m looking at my options,” he wrote).

If Woods left one spot open to interpretation, it’s his comment about coach Sean Foley, who has been heavily criticized in the media since taking on Tiger.

“I’m used to seeing the ball curve a lot, but now I’m hitting the ball much straighter, and it’s hard to trust that,” Woods wrote. “Most of the tee shots I missed at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and PGA were straight balls into the left trees, bunkers or rough. I couldn’t cut the ball. I’m just not comfortable yet aiming straight, and it’s a whole new sight line for me. I’ll keep working on my game, but my coach, Sean Foley, is pretty busy at the moment. His second child is due very soon, so he’s home taking care of his family.”

If you want to read between the lines that Tiger’s working without Foley, and the family commitments give him an easy out, you won’t be the only one.

Here are some of the other highlights:

On his health: It was nice to finally play in some tournaments and test out my left leg. Although I didn’t play as well as I wanted to, I hit more solid shots than people might think and more importantly, I had no problems with my knee and Achilles tendon. Right now, I’m healthy.

On his caddie situation: I did want thank my good friend Bryon Bell for caddying for me in both events. … I haven’t decided on a new caddie yet, but am definitely thinking about it a lot. There’s a few guys I’m looking at, but it all depends on timing. At this point, I’m in no hurry to make a decision. What am I looking for? Two things: A person with a lot of experience, and a person I’ll have fun with.

On his golf shoes: You might have noticed I wore new shoes at Bridgestone and the PGA called Nike “Free-Inspired,” which are prototype golf shoes made by Nike Golf. It’s the first time I haven’t worn metal spikes, and the shoes were so much more comfortable on my feet. They allow me freedom of movement, enable me to release the power in my swing and are definitely here to stay.
