Wes Welker has caught flak before for issues with his head. In New England he was ribbed for his receding hairline, but fought back against critics by paying a visit to the great Dr. Robert Leonard.

His recent concussion issues with the Broncos have been well documented and while some have pleaded with the fearless slot receiver to hang ’em up due to potential brain trauma, Welker is now taking unconventional measures to protect himself. Welker was spotted by CBS cameras before the start of the Chargers-Broncos divisional playoff game wearing an oversized helmet, which immediately had Twitter jokesters making reference to Rick Moranis’ “Dark Helmet” character in the 1987 “Star Wars” spoof film, “Spaceballs.” Click here to view what Welker looked like Sunday.
