Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker is “[expletive] stupid.” At least that’s the take of former Sports Illustrated columnist Jeff Pearlman, who believes that Welker should retire due to the amount of concussions he’s sustained, particularly recently.

“Wes, have you not been paying attention to the news on CTE and concussions and the hundreds upon hundreds of former NFL players who can’t remember their names,” Pearlman wrote on his blog. “Who wind up in assisted living communities, drinking strained peas through a straw?”

Pearlman’s “open letter” gave rise to much discussion about Welker and his career this week. The Broncos receiver has suffered two concussions in the past four games. On Wednesday Welker was ruled out of the Broncos game Thursday night against San Diego.
