Why hasn’t anyone signed Jaromir Jagr?

Why hasn’t anyone signed Jaromir Jagr?

Psst, NHL teams, come closer. I have a secret to tell you.

Do you know that one of the greatest players in NHL history is still on the free-agent market? Shocking, right?

Jaromir Jagr is still without a team as free agency continues to chug along deeper into summer.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: Joe, he’s 45 years old. It’s time to say goodbye.

Not so fast, my friend.

Despite his age, Jagr is still capable of producing. Last season with the Florida Panthers, he put up 16 goals and 30 assists while playing in all 82 games. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

There are players half his age who are not in as good of shape as he is. I mean, how many 45-year-old’s do you know who can do this on skates?

Sure, there are going to be the naysayers who are waiting for Jagr to break down. After 23 seasons in the NHL, it’s bound to happen.

But do you know how many games Jagr has missed since the start of the 2012-13 season?

Seven.

That’s remarkable coming from a man who started his NHL career before I was born (I’m 25 years old).

There are teams out there that need some added scoring punch. Jagr is still an option.

According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, Jagr is garnering interest from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL and he could also play in the Czech league or Olympics, which will likely not feature NHL’ers in 2018.

Jagr though wants to play in the NHL:

Other than Father Time, who Jagr continues to keep at bay, there’s really no other reason why he shouldn’t be taking the ice for a NHL team next season.
