Days after Cole Hamels’ name was floated in trade rumors with the Red Sox, it was whispered that the Phillies’ other big starting arm could wind up with the other big market team in the American League East.
The Yankees are said to be interested in acquiring lefty Cliff Lee from the Phils, as New York scouted Lee’s final rehab start last week, according to CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury. Toronto is also reportedly interested in Lee’s services.
Lee made his first start since May 21 last night against San Francisco.
The Yankees, who are just three games over .500 but are within striking distance of the division lead, are surely looking for a boost to their rotation after rookie phenom Masahiro Tanaka went down with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. New York is hopeful Tanaka can pitch again this season, but it is almost guaranteed that the All-Star righty will be out through the end of August.
