Ed Sheeran is man of simple tastes when it comes to his backstage meals before shows. However, the English superstar does enjoy having fine dining experiences from time-to-time, especially when he’s in Boston.
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter revealed his favorite grub in the Hub during a brief chat with the Boston Globe in Bourne over the weekend. Ahead of his Friday night concert at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, Sheeran shipped up to Cape Cod to perform for a lucky, local fan and a few of her friends at a special beach house show sponsored by MIX 104.1.
In addition to singing his hits like “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill,” the U.K. crooner opened up to the Globe about his fondness for the Boston area and its food scene. The Grammy Award-winner apparently likes to dine at Italian restaurants, so it’s no surprise that his go-to joint is located in the North End.
“There’s a really good Italian restaurant. It shows ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Godfather II.’ Strega?” Sheeran told the Globe, referring to the acclaimed hot spot by restaurateur Nick Varano.
Sheeran will have another chance to stop by Strega when his latest tour makes its way over to the TD Garden in Boston this fall. However, now that he’s a part of the “Game of Thrones” universe, maybe he’ll take a trek over to another North End eatery on the advice of Arya Stark, aka Maisie Williams, who recently dined at North Square Oyster with a few pals from Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”
There’s also a possiblity that Sheeran heads over to Gillette Stadium to catch a Patriots game during his trip to town, as the musician revealed to the Globe that he’s never been to an American football match before, although he does believe that Tom Brady has a lot in common with David Beckham. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
