Ron began his career as a sales representative in the Accident & Health Division of AIG and has held positions of increasing responsibility in several different divisions over the past 15 years. He was named vice president in April of 2006 and is now responsible for all of AIG’s Fortune 500 business (across all product lines) in the Northeast. Ron lives in Marblehead with his wife, Jacquie, and their 5-year-old son, Brendan.
Four years ago, amid reports of a “Brain Drain” that was sapping the business community’s most talented workers, the Greater Boston Chamber created the Boston’s Future Leaders (BFL) program to identify the leaders of tomorrow and engage them in the business and civic life of our community. What is the coolest part of your job?
Every day, I have the opportunity to meet with high-level executives (CEOs, CFOs, treasurers, and risk managers) from companies that I read about in the Wall Street Journal.
If you were recruiting someone to work for you, what would be your number one selling point about the company you work for?
AIG is a powerhouse financial services company with $1 trillion in assets and the most professional and talented people in the business. We are the largest insurance company in the world.
What is your favorite thing about working in Boston?
I grew up here [Hyannis], so my favorite thing about working in Boston is being home. The connections that I have established throughout my life are all still in play. Boston is more of a big town than a city.
Favorite place to take a client for lunch?
Mr. Dooley’s.
If you could have any job in Boston, other than your own, what would it be and why?
Boston Harbormaster. I love being on the ocean, and I would love it even more if I could get paid for it.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Running the Boston office of AIG.
Favorite place to relax after a long week?
Kalmus Beach in Hyannis on a sunny and windy day. I am a windsurfer, and Kalmus is one of the best windsurfing spots on the East Coast.
What’s the best piece of career advice you have ever received?
Meet three new people at every function you attend.

Mr. Dooley’s.

How can young professionals expand their networks and increase their impact in Boston?
Attend every event that your company is involved in. Get involved with area networking groups [like the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce]. Attend events just to meet people. Put yourself out there.
What reading material is on your nightstand?
Striper Surf by Frank Daignault.

Every January, my brother, some good friends and I travel out to Minneapolis to play in the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships.
