The gangster of Hollywood
FEATURE. Johnny Depp doesn’t know what time it is. Though he technically calls an adorable village in France home and owns an island in the Caribbean, the mercurial actor spends so much time working that his internal clock is all out of whack.

Directorial debut is a shot at the ‘Moon’
INTERVIEW. When directors are limited to a $5 million budget and a 33-day shooting schedule, they usually won’t do anything too arduous — especially for their first films. But director Duncan Jones, 37, tells us that he “wanted to do something with ambition” for his debut flick. So instead, Jones, who is the son of David Bowie, decided to make the sci-fi adventure “Moon,” which opens Friday. The affable Brit explains how.

The Beckhams’ island getaway
GOSSIP. According to the Sun, David Beckham is planning a trip to Necker Island, Richard Branson’s private island hideaway, to celebrate his 10th wedding anniversary with Victoria Beckham. And the best part? It only costs $51,000 a night to have the whole island to themselves.

Bale does light-lifting
MOVIES. Christian Bale is more relaxed than usual, and with good reason. The heavy lifting in promoting his latest film, “Public Enemies,” falls to Johnny Depp. For once, the success or failure of the movie doesn’t rest on Bale’s shoulders. There’s no talk of on-set outbursts or franchise potential. And for that, he’s grateful — and cheerful.

Dogs of war

GOSSIP. Nicolas Cage wants you to know he’s not the type of guy who goes around stealing chihuahuas. Us Magazine reported yesterday that Cage has filed suit in London’s High Court against his former “Peggy Sue Got Married” co-star, Kathleen Turner, who claimed in her recent autobiography that Cage was thrice arrested during filming.

“He caused so many problems,” Turner writes. “He was arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He’d  come across a chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket.”
Cage issued a statement saying, “I have never been arrested for anything in my life, nor have I stolen a dog.”

A likely story. But the question remains: If a chihuahua did go missing, where is it now? Oh, wait, there it is — right next to Scarlett Johansson’s boobs on the cover of W magazine. Scarlett and “The Other Boleyn Girl” co-star Natalie Portman open up in the new issue about subjects such as “Who is sexier?” and “quesadillas.” But at no point is the issue of whether that chihuahua on the cover is in fact the same one Nic Cage allegedly stole in the ’80s addressed. Shame on you, W magazine.

Sister act
In stupid rich people news, Paris Hilton’s 18-year-old brother, Barron Hilton, was arrested early yesterday in Malibu for DUI. According to TMZ.com, the teen titan blew a .14 on his breathalizer test. The legal limit for Californians old enough to drink is .08. We’re guessing it’s somewhat lower for those under 21. The Web site also reported that a gas station attendant claimed that Hilton hit him with his car just before his arrest.
