BOSTON. The city council yesterday approved hikes in parking fines to be enforced on major streets around Boston, a plan Mayor Thomas Menino’s administration says will raise about $13 million in revenue.
Parking in a fire lane will rise from $40 to $100; parking in a front of a hydrant will increase from $75 to $100; parking in a crosswalk will jump from $40 to $85; parking in front of handicapped ramp will rise from $50 to $100; parking more than one foot from a curb would increase from $20 to $35; and having an invalid or expired inspection sticker or registration would jump from $20 to $40.
Many of the fine amounts had not been altered in more than 10 years.
