The gangster of Hollywood
FEATURE. Johnny Depp doesn’t know what time it is. Though he technically calls an adorable village in France home and owns an island in the Caribbean, the mercurial actor spends so much time working that his internal clock is all out of whack.

Directorial debut is a shot at the ‘Moon’
INTERVIEW. When directors are limited to a $5 million budget and a 33-day shooting schedule, they usually won’t do anything too arduous — especially for their first films. But director Duncan Jones, 37, tells us that he “wanted to do something with ambition” for his debut flick. So instead, Jones, who is the son of David Bowie, decided to make the sci-fi adventure “Moon,” which opens Friday. The affable Brit explains how.

The Beckhams’ island getaway
GOSSIP. According to the Sun, David Beckham is planning a trip to Necker Island, Richard Branson’s private island hideaway, to celebrate his 10th wedding anniversary with Victoria Beckham. And the best part? It only costs $51,000 a night to have the whole island to themselves.

Bale does light-lifting
MOVIES. Christian Bale is more relaxed than usual, and with good reason. The heavy lifting in promoting his latest film, “Public Enemies,” falls to Johnny Depp. For once, the success or failure of the movie doesn’t rest on Bale’s shoulders. There’s no talk of on-set outbursts or franchise potential. And for that, he’s grateful — and cheerful.

Mr. Holland’s lawsuit to his dad and uncle

GOSSIP. When it comes to Hollywood badasses, many names pop up (Sylvester Stallone, Charles Bronson, and Carrie Fisher all come to mind). But, you know, we’ve always kind of known that Richard Dreyfuss should be right up there. Because, as it turns out, if you’re elderly, owe him some money, and happened to have fathered him, he’s totally going to sue your ass.

See, Dreyfuss is suing his father and uncle over an $870,000 loan he claims was never repaid. This transaction happened in 1984. And now Dreyfuss wants his family members to cough up the dough, never mind they are probably in their 80s, maybe even older.

According to The Associated Press, Dreyfuss alleges his uncle and father, Norman Dreyfuss, have acted with “fraud” and “malice.” He is seeking a repayment of the loan, plus interest and punitive damages.

Yeah, Dreyfuss! Way to stick it to old family members even though you are totally rich. That will show them not to ask you for any loans over 24 years ago. In their faces!

American Dad

We at the Word have been glued to ClayAiken.com all weekend (help. us.) to see if the magical ginger man will post anything more about his son, who was born on Friday. Aiken announced the birth to the world on the site.

He wrote:

“My dear friend, Jaymes, and I are so excited to announce the birth of Parker Foster Aiken. (No hyphens. One first name. One middle name. One last name.) Parker was born at a hospital in North Carolina just this morning at 8:08 a.m. Wow ... 8:08 ... 08/08/08. The little man is healthy, happy, and as loud as his daddy. Mama Jaymes is doing quite well also.”

Just as a way of recap, Mama Jaymes is 50 and Clay Aiken is, well, Clay Aiken. And they have a very “special” relationship (as in they aren’t dating or living together or have any plans on being together, but will raise their new child together). Basically, it’s all very weird.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to have a drink.
