Fort Point Channel
We’d call this area on South Boston’s waterfront a diamond in the rough, but this hood really isn’t that rough. Seriously, how badass can you be with a huge milk bottle outside a Children’s Museum as one of your main focal points? Other points are the ICA (see page 43 for more on that) and the Bank of America Pavilion, where bands too big for the clubs in our Nightlife section and too small for the TD Banknorth Garden, play outdoors. Coming up: My Morning Jacket (Sept. 6), Ryan Adams (Sept. 7), Sigur Ros (Sept. 19). To get here take the Silver Line to Courthouse.
The Achilles Project This is the only place to grace both eats and shopping sections of Uncovered. For food, we suggest the bacon and sea salt pretzel and olive oil poached tuna melt. 283 Summer St., Boston. 617.423.2257.
The Barking Crab The atmosphere here is great if you visit off-hours, as the interior looks like the inside of a ship, and the large windows look right out into the water. If you visit any other time, you're in for a lot of yelling above your chowder. But it's only crowded because the food is so damn good. 88 Sleeper St., Boston. 617.426.CRAB.
Lucky’s Lounge Walking into this place, you may feel like you’ve accidentally stumbled into a bygone era, quite possibly one during prohibition, since there’s no sign out front and Sinatra is almost always oozing out of the speakers. The buttery and delicious food tastes like it was also from an era where people weren’t as health conscious. We recommend the diner-style Lucky Burger ($10). 355 Congress St., Boston. 617.357.LUCK.
flour Although they don’t use upper case letters in their moni-ker, this place is Yum with a capital Y. Sandwiches made with freshly-baked bread, double chocolate chip cookies, and a tart called lemon lust that actually lives up to its name, as ashamed as we are saying we lust for lemons. 12 Farnsworth St., Boston. 617.338.433.
Blue Wave Like many of the restaurants in the area, Blue Wave is mostly for the lunching workers. What sets Blue Wave apart, however, is their Soulful Saturday throwdowns. 343 Congress St., Boston. 617.790.07203.
Seaport Bar & Grille This place is more see-food than sea food. If you get a nice day and a table on the top deck, you can take your time with those not horrible fried clams and look out onto the giant glass cube that is the ICA. 150 Northern Ave., Boston. 617.357.8121.
