Fergie: I’m a lip-gloss girl

Fergie has learned to not take the scrutiny of her looks seriously.

PROFILE. “I’m totally a lip-gloss girl,” says new MAC Viva Glam spokeswoman Stacy Ferguson aka Fergie. The singer is promoting her new lip gloss for MAC, Viva Glam VI Special Edition, which benefits the brand’s HIV/AIDS fund. “I remember the ads with RuPaul and buying the first color, but it was pretty dark for my skin,” she says.

Her version is a pale, shimmery plum that resembles the nude lip colors she’s become known for.

“I love a natural lip,” she says.

Makeup has been a career-long lesson for the Californian. She first encountered the brand in a workshop she took during her days with the all-girl group Wild Orchid.

But by the time she joined the Black Eyed Peas,  she had begun experimenting with a few techniques of her own. “I was completely into the chola lip line,” says Fergie of the look largely associated with Los Angeles latinas. “Nowadays, I’ll do that only for the stage. I realize that my lips look beautiful naturally,” she adds.

The media has been slow to believe her on that “natural” part, adding her to a list of celebs on constant plastic surgery watch. “It was weird, because in the beginning you want everyone to notice you. But once everyone starts talking about you it becomes negative. I’ve cried a lot of tears. But I’ve learned to take it down a notch in its importance to me,” she says.
