AD says he’ll find new coach who wants to be at BC; Messy breakup offers lesson we all can learn from
In today’s economy, you’ve got to balance your loyalty against your ambitions. Just ask ex-Boston College football coach Jeff Jagodzinski.
Jagodzinski, who was fired by BC yesterday for interviewing for the vacant New York Jets coaching position, leaves The Heights after just two years. Despite his collegiate success, the appeal of an NFL job was too great to pass up.
“From a historical perspective, the BC football job always has been a steppingstone,” said Richard Johnson, the curator of the New England Sports Museum.
In the immediate wake of yesterday’s news, many blogs are blaming Jagodzinski.
“One group is angry at Jags. One group is upset with how the AD handled this. And one group is just disappointed in the whole thing. I would say most BC fans are in the first group, and really feel betrayed and letdown by Jags,” said William Maloney, editor of the popular BC sports blog “Eagle in Atlanta.”
According Debra Condren, author of “Ambition is Not a Dirty Word,” it’s wise to keep your current boss in the loop if you’re approached about another job.
