BOSTON. Since Dec. 26, over 130 parishioners have taken part in a vigil at the 104-year-old St. Stanislaus Kostka in Adams, slated for closure last year by the Springfield Diocese.
They huddle next to heaters, snack on donated food and sleep amid the ornate reminders of their Polish heritage that line the cathedral’s stunning interior.
“We’re in it for the long run,” said 72-year-old Fran Hajdas, who was baptized here. "We're upbeat and very positive."
The Diocese announced last year it would shut down two of the three Catholic churches in Adams after an initial report recommended just one closure.
"They had to make a choice and they made the wrong choice and that's why we are doing what we're doing." parishioner David Aiken.
