Merely a month ago, the thoughts of losing Brian Scalabrine would barely result in a shoulder shrug.
Now, though, he’s been one of the Celtics’ most valuable assets, someone who never hurts the team boasts as much versatility as anyone on the bench.
Scalabrine suffered a concussion Tuesday at practice and will miss seven to 10 days. The earliest he can return is next Thursday against the Lakers.
“I got my bell rung two times in three days,” said Scalabrine, who also suffered a hard hit Sunday against the Mavericks. “I’m more disappointed about that because as a team we’ve been playing some good ball. I feel like I’ve been playing some good ball lately.”
Scalabrine, who was averaging 6.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 23.4 minutes in eight games before the injury, doesn’t remember the actual hit during practice, but he knows he was going up for a rebound, turned around and got hit by a teammate.
He got a CAT Scan and will check in with his doctor again Saturday. Scalabrine said it was a little tough driving into the Garden last night and mentioned he gets dizzy when he has to get up to walk around, especially when he’s going up stairs.
“As athletes, we always think we’ll just bounce back, and nothing will happen again,” Scalabrine said before getting to the important stuff. “My wife said she was concerned about my intelligence level.”
