SPRINGER IS IN THE AIR London is a most discerning theater town. But they aren’t above high camp, apparently. “Jerry Springer: The Opera,” which earned major awards (including the Olivier) and major raves (our U.K. sister paper called it “one of the most arresting, hilarious and original pieces of modern musical theatre”), sets down at the Boston Center for the Arts (539 Tremont St., Boston. MBTA: Orange Line to Back Bay) Friday, 8 p.m., and runs through May 30. Tickets $25-$54; call 617-933-8600 or go to www.bostontheatrescene.com for details. SPRINGER IS IN THE AIR

Break out the white gloves and gaudy hat and give Revere something to talk about (other than clam strip rolls and bodybuilding contests). Suffolk Downs’ opening day coincides with the 135th Run for the Roses — odds are on I Want Revenge but we’re going to take Musket Man on the outside. Mint Juleps on us if he wins.

How can a band channel, at once, Foo Fighters, Say Anything and Modest Mouse? You’re about to find out. Atlanta’s Manchester Orchestra is an indie band with a major sound as evidenced on the juggernaut, “Mean Everything to Nothing.” Fun, Audrye Sessions and Winston Audio kick off the night.

Walk for Hunger
Sunday, 7 a.m.
Boston Common
Enter at the corner of Charles and Beacon streets
MBTA: Green or Red Line to Park Street

At press time, one Mary Walling was leading the fundraising pack for this year’s Walk for Hunger — $4,363 not including couch change. Are you gonna let Walling show you up like that?! If walking to feed the hungry doesn’t motivate you, competition might. Registration takes place 7 to 9 a.m. and the walk — which stretches 20 miles from the Common to Newton and back — benefits Project Bread and in turn more than 400 hunger agencies and pantries that help feed more than 500,000 struggling Massachusetts folks.
