Game 2 at a glance: Hurricanes 3, Bruins 0

Three things we saw last night:

1 Unfamiliar territory: Joe Corvo’s tally in the second marked the first time the Bruins have trailed at home this postseason. Matt Cullen’s short-handed goal five minutes later was the first time the Bruins trailed by more than one goal in the playoffs. Carolina also killed off two power plays in the second. Not the best period, to say the least.

2 Sticking to the plan:
Carolina coach Paul Maurice challenged his team to minimize turnovers and play more physically following Game 1. They responded in kind. Boston is best when it pounces on neutral-zone turnovers, but the ’Canes eliminated giveaways and had more hits at the end of the second period (24) than they did in all of Game 1 (23).

3 You’re being forward:
In addition to the uniquely effective style of Tim Thomas and the defensive corps, the ability of Boston’s forwards to get back on ‘D’ was impressive. A few times, the ’Canes appeared as though they were going to escape on an odd-man rush, but the attempts quickly faded thanks to the B’s forwards’ effort.

Up next:
Game 3, Wednesday at Carolina, 7:30 p.m., VERSUS; series tied, 1-1

Our take:
Good news: The B’s won both regular-season contests at the Hurricanes’ RBC Center.

Injuries:
Matt Hunwick is out (splenectomy). Phil Kessel looks past the pain of a swollen elbow.
