All he had was love for the city

SOHO. John Lennon recorded a song dedicated to his adopted city on his 1972 album “Some Time in New York.” The lyrics describe the allure of the Staten Island Ferry, Greenwich Village and anonymity.

Though Lennon was politically engaged — and artistically prolific — during his first years here, he spent most of his time cut off from public life. Today, thanks to an exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex, fans gain a glimpse of his life here.
