It’s not every day that Metro gets to interview an evangelical Christian youth group. But when we heard that Gideon Lamb and Jeremiah Smallchild, who make up the band “God’s Pottery” and are authors of the new book, “What Would God’s Pottery Do: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Your Teens and/or Being Successful” (Three Rivers, $17), were up to talking with us, we thought: WWJD? And we realized that He would say “Yes!”
Since you’ve been so successful as an acoustic duo, why write a book?
Smallchild: We are first and foremost peer counselors but we had done that counseling through song. We figured, if we could give advice through book form, it wouldn’t even have to rhyme. Which is much easier for us.
What do you think is the No. 1 danger facing teens these days?
Lamb: Danger. I would say danger is the No. 1 problem.
Smallchild: There are lots of smaller dangers though. Such as your body and puberty — when your “downstairs area” starts to change, it can be very, very frightening.
Have you had a hard time adjusting to this new level of fame with the book release?
Lamb: Well, I have been able to expand my lifestyle a bit. I was able to buy a new pair of sandals, which was quite nice.
Smallchild: We’re lucky. We have someone making sure we stay humble and keeping us in place — that big guy who lives upstairs.
