For New Yorkers headed to London, or just trying to understand a visitor from over the pond, the Brits can have a strange way of speech. Here’s a few tips.

▶ Footie: Means football, as in “I’m off to watch the footie.”

▶ Bladdered: Means drunk. “I am so bladdered, I couldn’t gargle another pint.”

▶ Meat and two veg: Slang for male genitalia.

▶ Trainspotter: A dork. The kind of guy who keeps a log book of train schedules. The British love their trains.

▶ Brad Pitt: rhyming slang for defecation.

In the last few years, New Yorkers have become accustomed to the flood of tourists over from Britain on shopping sprees and weekend holiday getaways. Get ready for more.

Mayor Bloomberg and London Mayor Boris Johnson yesterday signed a two-year deal agreement to promote cross-Atlantic visits.

“Tourism will undoubtedly be one of the industries that helps aid our local economy through the recovery from the recession, and we are working harder than ever to promote it,” George Fertitta, head of NYC & Co., the city’s tourism arm, said in a statement.

Ads for London will run in New York’s subway and posters for Gotham will run in overseas bus shelters. The swap of ad space is worth an estimated $357,000 to each city.
