Stay healthy

Take baths instead of showers.

Clean your shower curtain. The soap scum is a haven for bacteria.

Get a metal showerhead. Bacteria particularly love plastic showerheads.

Skip that shower! According to new research, the cleanliness routine makes you dirtier. It even makes you sick.

“If you’re getting a face full of water when you first turn your shower on, that means you are probably getting a particularly high load of Mycobacterium avium, which may not be too healthy,” says Norman Pace, professor of biology at the University of Colorado.

Pace and his team of biologists have investigated shower heads in homes and public spaces across the United States. Showerheads, researchers found, contain more than 100 times as many M. avium as average municipal water. The bacteria is not only unsanitary; it also causes pulmonary disease.

The March MMMpod features conversation and music from Surfer Blood and The Allman Brothers Band (There's a double-bill you're not too likely to see. However, Gregg Allman does mention Hannah Montana!). We also speak with Vampire Weekend and the Dropkick Murphys.
