Fisher, founder of Gap, dies

NEW YORK. Donald Fisher, who turned Gap Inc. into one of the world’s largest clothing retailers, died of cancer yesterday at 81.

Fisher called his company “The Gap” after the hole he sought to fill, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company has 3,145 stores with sales of $14.5 billion last year and  drives fashion choices for millions around the world. The company also owns Banana Republic and Old Navy.
