Dancing while the skinny lady sings
You’ve heard of the jukebox musical? David Parsons and singers AnnMarie Milazzo and Tyley Ross of the East Village Opera Co. offer a jukebox opera, playing nightly at the Joyce. Eleven Parsons dancers share the stage with Milazzo and Ross, who clutch microphones cranked to 11 and stroll through the action. On the recorded soundtrack, three drummers create a wall of sound so loud you — well, I — want to hide under the seat. Digital video of abstract patterns, natural landscapes and stunning architecture change for each song.

Let me count the ways ...
‘Tis the season for writing love letters. But that can be a daunting endeavor, especially when you’re not sure where to start. Should you put it in verse, use flowery language, get erotic? As with almost anything in life, the simpler you keep it, the easier (and often better) it will be. It doesn’t sound that romantic, but think of your love letter as a laundry list of the reasons why you adore your sweetheart. It’s kinda like Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnet 43: “How do you love your partner? Count the ways!” Here’s how to do it without rhyming or pulling out a thesaurus:

Justice for ‘Sticky’

Police charge 19-year-old with covering cat in duct tape

Doing well

The tape, which covered the cat from her tail to neck, was removed while the cat was sedated. The gray tabby received a thorough medical evaluation and was found to be in healthy condition. The PSCPA has received more than 100 requests to adopt Sticky.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA. The North Philadelphia teenager who was arrested for allegedly wrapping a cat in duct tape lost both his father and brother to street violence in the last two years, said the Pennsylvania SPCA’s chief law enforcement officer.

“I don’t think he ever got over their deaths,” Officer George Bengal said.

Following a tip, James Davis, 19, of the 2100 block of 22nd Street, was brought into custody by PSPCA humane law enforcement officers Saturday night, according to a statement from the organization. The cat, nicknamed “Sticky,” was found Sept. 22 in the backyard of a home on the 2200 block of Edgley Street.

Davis faces a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty. If convicted, Davis could face up to two years in prison, a fine of at least $1,000, the possibility of a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation and other related charges.

“He’s got a lot of rage inside of him,” Bengal said. “The psychiatric help he could receive may be a blessing in disguise.”
