Must-have morning apps

Try out the iPhone applications that will make any groggy morning easier to navigate — even before you’ve had your caffeine fix

Wakey! Wakey! The moment your sleek alarm clock starts chiming, you roll over and grab your iPhone. You scroll through your inbox, check Facebook and Twitter for updates and then start thinking about your day. Instead of dropping your phone, scroll through these handy apps to help you start your day on the right track.

1. Plan your commute with the Traffic.com app

From the same people who brought us the helpful Where iPhone app comes this must-have app — Traffic.com. Traffic.com provides color-coded traffic maps, accident and construction info, and informs you of traffic jams or severe delays. You can even save your regular routes to see what’s happening on particular roads, then sync and save these routes to the Traffic.com Web site. All this, and it doesn’t cost you a penny.

2. Let Haircaster predict the weather and your hairstyle

Freaking out about how frizzy your hair will be some days? Get the Haircaster iPhone App for 99 cents and style with confidence. Haircaster uses your location to find out the weather and then analyzes how the humidity and temperature will affect your ’do. For extremists, it advises you to stay in if conditions will have you looking Medusa-like. A little silly, maybe, but it could save you some stress on days when frizzy craziness is unwanted.

3. Plan your cup o’ Joe with myStarbucks

Find the closest Starbucks so you can get your caffeine fix quick with the free newly launched
myStarbucks app. You can also browse the menu and check out nutritional information so you start the day on the right foot.

4. Plan your outfit with Touch Closet

Remember how we all oohed and aahed over “Clueless”? We thought it was so high tech, having your wardrobe on your computer. Well I’m glad to say we one-upped Cher Horowitz because now you can have all that — on your iPhone. Touch Closet is a free app that lets you add clothing items from your wardrobe, organizing and creating a kind of inventory (so you can tell from a glance if you need to stop buying gray cardigans). From there, you can put together outfits and record when you wore them, so you can see what you’re wearing often.

5. Check your to-do list

Select a productivity app and check it every morning. Evernote is the best note-taking app that syncs with the desktop and the Web.
